Feature & Follow Friday (17)

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme
hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

Hello there!!!
I am teepee, and this is my blog, Little Librocubicularist. This blog (and I) is so fortunate to have been chosen as one of the featured blogs this week. Thank you Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

Interview Questions:

1. When did you start blogging?

I officially started blogging January last year. But the blogger account has been around since March 2011. It was just a requirement for a school subject we had back then. Then, I discovered book blogging and wanted to try it out. I reconstructed the blog on October 2012 and posted a some random book reviews from Goodreads. I realized how awful and disorganized the blog looks back then, so I remodeled it again. At the start of 2013, Little Librocubicularist has been officially born.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Getting and reading books, and people actually liking what I had written. I feel relieved and glad whenever someone comments on one of my reviews, or even give them likes on Goodreads, It's like an assurance that what I'm doing is okay (if not good), and I can continue doing it.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

The blog is dedicated mostly to Young Adult books, and a few selected New Adult books as well. I read all genres of YA except horror, so expect a a diverse selection of books. But lately, I've been having a Contemporary fixation.

4. What are your favorite books?

Can we skip this question? It's so hard.

Okay, here are some of my favorite books

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta is one of my favorite books. It has been one of the few books that has left me speechless after reading. Also, Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare (I have not read Clockwork Princess yet) and My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick. Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park has recently been added to my favorites list. There are a few more but I can't seem to remember... I feel bad for those who have not been mentioned.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

To be honest, getting books from authors or publishers is by far the most squeal-worthy moment I've ever experienced. It is number one on my list. And not far from the top spot is the part where authors actually acknowledge the things you said about their books. If getting books is squeal-worthy, this experience just blows my mind away.

Activity/Question:
How important is good writing to you? In an ideal world, a book would be beautifully written AND have great character development, plot, etc. But in the real world, which do you prefer: (1) Great characters and plot with lousy writing or (2) Middling character development and plot but gorgeous writing.

**********

In a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being "extremely important", I suppose it's around 5 or 6.

Activity/Question:
Have you ever convinced someone to read a book, a series, or a whole genre? What book(s) and who was it? Did they like it?

**********

YES, I have.

Activity/Question:
Have you met a favorite author and have a picture? Share.

**********
How I wish I could answer this question with a very big YES. But sadly, I have not met any author yet. If you count school textbook authors, then my answer will be "yes". YA authors or any fiction author, NO.

Activity/Question:
Resolutions: Put together your blogger resolution list for all of us to see!

**********

Ah, resolutions... I have been avoiding that word from the moment the new year countdown began. It's not that I don't have any resolutions, because I do have some. But they are just similar to the other bloggers' resolution, so why post them again?

Anyway, going back to the question... The blogger resolution list I made on January 1st was a little vague. Maybe it's not even a resolution list, but more of "what I want to accomplish" list. Just click HERE if you want to see that post.

There are also a few things I want to add...

** I will reduce the unread books on my book case.

** I will have more meaningful posts on the blog aside from "Feature and Follow", "Stacking the Shelves", book reviews, cover reveals, etc... I'm going to try out discussion posts.

** I will interact more with people in the blogosphere.

** I will improve my writing skills and write more substantial reviews.

** School and studies first before YA books.
(Yes, I promised myself that this year, I will not be distracted by these gorgeous books anymore. I will have self-control. I will improve my grades and graduate college with flying colors.)

Activity/Question:
Pick a book in your favorite genre that you’d recommend to a reluctant reader.

**********

I don't have a particular genre that I can say is my favorite, but I love Dystopian, Contemporary and Fantasy (mostly paranormal) books.

For Dystopian books, I think everybody has already heard of The Hunger Games. Although I highly recommend that trilogy, that is not what I'm going to feature. My pick would be the LEGEND trilogy by Marie Lu.

Activity:
Bookselling Time: Go to your biggest bookcases. Go to the second shelf from the top and pick out the sixth book from the left. Hardsell that book to us – even if you haven’t read it or if you hated it. (If you don’t have bookcases, don’t have six books on one shelf, etc, pick a book at random.)

**********

The books on my second shelf are not really arranged that way. Some of them are piled up, so the one I got is the sixth book from the bottom.

Time Between Us
by Tamara Ireland Stone

If you love contemporary novels, I'm sure you'll love the sweet tale of Anna and Bennett in Time Between Us. If you're thinking that this is probably one of the many cliche love stories out there, think again.  But how are they different from all the other YA couples out there? Well, this relationship is not just tested by distance, but tested by time as well. Anna is from 1995 while Bennett is from 2012. Bennett's unusual condition enables him to travel to different places at different times. He meets Anna in 1995. He falls in love. He keeps coming back and, you know how the rest of that goes... or at least you think you know. *devious grin*

I swear, you won't regret this one. This is a must have on every bookcase in the world. Not just because of the great story, but the cover looks wonderful as well. It would look very good sitting there on your shelf. :) Plus, there's that possibility that this book might turn into a movie. Wouldn't you want to say that I have already read that before all the movie drama/hype starts?

Question:
What book (or TV show or movie) have you not read that seemingly everyone else has?

**********

Book: Harry Potter series, Percy Jackson and other Rick Riordan books, The Iron Fey series and other Julie Kagawa books, (I have read the first book of all those three series but haven't continued with the rest). and Game of Thrones. That's all I could think of at the moment.
TV Show: Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Supernatural, Pretty Little Liars,  etc...
Movie: Avatar,  Lord of The Rings (I haven't read that as well).

THIS WEEK'S ACTIVITY:
Reading Nook Tour: Give us a tour of your favorite reading spots.

**********

My blog title says it all: LIBROCUBICULARIST, a noun pertaining to a person who reads in bed. MY BED, it is the one and only spot I feel very comfortable when reading books. Any other place is okay, but nothing can compare to my bed.
That was my room before we moved to a new place a few months ago. I still have the same bed and the same things, but the place is a little different. And I still love to read in bed.
(I chose this photo because my room looks clean here. Hahahahaha! And by bed is neatly fixed. Yay me!)

QUESTION:
Have you broken up with a series? If so which one and why?

**********

Is this the situation wherein you've read the first book (or first few books), then for some reason you can't seem to get yourself to read the sequels? If so, my answer would be the Fallen series by Lauren Kate, The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater, The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel, the Halo series by Alexandra Adornetto, and The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer.

QUESTION:
What blogger would you most like to meet in real life? Tell us about him or her.

**********

I haven't been around the blog universe that long, and I don't really have a particular blogger that I actually talk to all the time, or that I really (badly) want to meet in real life.

But to answer the question, I would like to meet some of the Filipino YA bloggers. It would be fun for us to meet up, and have like a Filipino Blogger Convention thingy. Some of the bloggers I would like to meet are the people behind The Soul Sisters, Amaterasu Reads, Book Whales, Bookshelf Confessions, The Twins Read and a lot more (check the sidebar).

Abby from Bookshelf Confessions has been very good to me. She's the one who encouraged me to blog again, and continue blogging. Thanks to her, Little Librocubicularist is alive.

QUESTION:
The #FF is 150 weeks old! And we want to hear from you! What would you change about the hop? What do you like about it? Or just suggest a question to be used for next week!

**********

Congratulations for reaching 150 weeks!!! :)

I don't really have anything to complain about this blog hop. It's a great way to interact with other bloggers, read and discuss different opinions and gain new followers.

Suggestion for next week's question: "If you weren't blogging about books, what would you blog about? Or would you blog at all?"

QUESTION:
School is out! What is your favorite Summer Reading book??

**********

I don't really have a "Summer Reading" book. I read whatever book I want to read for the day or for the week. It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I really like contemporaries, and other times I crave for some paranormal fantasy. So it depends...

By the way, classes will be starting again here in the Philippines 2 to 3 weeks from now.

QUESTION:
Happy Mother's Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?

**********

Mrs. Garrett from Huntley Fitzpatrick's My Life Next Door. If you haven't read it yet, and you like heart-warming family stories and you want a sweet dose of contemporary, you should definitely read this. Mrs. Garrett's family is funny and awesome, and they will surely put a smile on your face.

Also, Mrs. Weasley, but I feel like I'm cheating if I choose her because I haven't really read the Harry Potter series. My judgement is based from the movies. But she really is a bada** mom.

QUESTION:
Give us a sneak! What are you reading? Tell us about a fun or fail scene in your current read.

**********

If you are my friend in goodreads, you will probably see that I am currently reading two books at the moment: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor and Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I have been reading these books since mid-April (I think) and I just can't seem to finish them. I am halfway through Daughter of Smoke and Bone and on page 4 of Shatter Me.

I don't know why, but Akiva and Karou (Daughter of...) aren't really working for me. I feel no sparks or chemistry between them. So the sweet/romantic scenes are a bit of a failure. Maybe that would still change once I get to the great parts of the book.

Shatter Me is I don't know... A lot of people loved it, but in my third attempt to finish it, I still feel laz and bored. So, no comment on that. :)

As you have read, I am not reading anything fun, or I am not having fun with these books.

QUESTION:
Is there a song that reminds you of a book? Or vice versa? What is the song & the book?

**********

Sorry, but I can't think of any song that reminds me of a book or vice versa... So this may seem a little too movie-ish and literal, but every time I hear Decode by Paramore, I am always reminded of Twilight.

QUESTION:
If you could hang out with any author (living), who would it be and what would you want to do?

**********

This a very tough question for a girl with a lot of favorite authors. But if I ever get a chance to hang out with any author, I would have Melissa dela Cruz at the top of the list. Why? Mainly because she's a Filipina author making a big name not just in the United States, but internationally. Plus, I love her Blue Bloods series.

I would probably freak out first if I do get to meet Melissa dela Cruz, then proceed to fangirl mode after I get over the fact that I am going to hang out with her. I am going to ask her a lot of questions about her books, her secrets to success, how she juggles her personal life and her busy work, etc... We could hang out at her place and eat Filipino food, sing Filipino songs and be proud we're both Filipinos. Maybe we can invite Ally Carter (they're friends, right?) over after, and talk about their hot fiction guys and their awesome female leads, and we could have a girl's night.
